IST 04:32 pm: Going by recent reports, it appears that OnePlus is going to bid adieu to HydrogenOS in China as they plan to cease the developments and make a switch to Oppo’s ColorOS instead.
If the alleged announcement is to believe the official HydrogenOS website will shutdown on March 24, followed by the OTA server shutting down on April 01. If true, how will this move affect the OxygenOS?
Well, a OnePlus spokesperson claims that OxygenOS (outside China) will stay unaffected by this. Here’s their statement:
We don’t have any updates about HydrogenOS to share at the moment, but we can confirm that OxygenOS remains our operating system for all global devices.
Right now, we’re not sure as to how OxygenOS is going to be handled, as the majority of updates first arrive as HydrogenOS. Also, how are the OnePlus devices that are yet to receive the stable Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 – like the OnePlus 7 & Oneplus 6 series – going to be affected, that is not known yet.

The fact that both devices are already on stable Android 11 makes it interesting to watch. The growing number of bugs could be one of the reasons why OnePlus has planned to recruit users.
