06:40 pm (IST): A fresh report suggests that Huawei might be planning to release HarmonyOS to devices with processors such as the Kirin 810, Kirin 820, Kirin 820E, Kirin 980, Kirin 990, Kirin 985, and Kirin 9000.

So any device with a processor above the Kirin 710 could be eligible for the update to HarmonyOS.

06:15 pm (IST): A fresh leak on Weibo suggests that HarmonyOS would be replacing EMUI 11 on a few Huawei devices starting from April. The first batch of devices to get the update will be these:

11:58 am (IST): Huawei’s representative in a conference today has stated that mulitple Huawei smartphones will get upgraded to HarmonyOS 2.0 before June.

He goes on to add that at least 300 million units will be running HarmonyOS 2.0 before the year ends and will subsequently expand with time.

12:17 pm (IST): HarmonyOS 2.0 has indeed turned out to be a delight as comparisons show (1, 2, 3) it occupies lesser RAM and ROM, escalating higher efficiency and low power consumption.

There are also some features from iOS 14 that have been adopted on the new OS. The brand is also looking to expand HarmonyOS 2.0 to support Qualcomm and MediaTek processors.

Not only this, but Huawei has also applied for the “HaromonyOS Connect” trademark.

Another one shows Huawei Mate 40 Pro running all Google apps despite being on HarmonyOS 2.0. There’s also an image circulating that shows a Xiaomi device running HarmonyOS 2.0 while booting up.

04:01 pm (IST): It is being reported that HarmonyOS 2.0 still supports Android apps with distrubuted capabilities.

An ecosystem between smartphones, tablets, PCs, and smart equipment has become very powerful and smooth with HarmonyOS 2.0.

Huawei is gearing up for the HarmonyOS System Ecological Partner Summit – HarmonyOS Connect in China on May 18. Huawei Watch 3 based on HarmonyOS 2.0 also gets WiFi certification that suggests imminent launch.

03:25 pm (IST): Huawei’s trademark “Hongmeng” has been rejected following a confusing episode of same keywords.

11:30 am (IST): HarmonyOS 2.0 page on Weibo goes live with 100k+ followers without even making a single post, shows how popular this OS has become.

HarmonyOS 2.0 codes suggest they might soon make space for Huawei Mate Pad Pro 2. There is also a list of HarmaonyOS stock apps available for download.

Update 75 (May 15, 2021)

03:49 pm (IST): HarmonyOS 2.0 is set to occupy more than 16% of the market share this year.

With the release for the general public planned next month, more and more apps keep coming. Here is a new app that has been released along with the HarmonyOS version of the Jingdong shopping app.

While all this is happening, some games won’t detect HarmonyOS 2.0 powered phones and tags them as PC emulators instead.

11:25 am (IST): Huawei has revealed OpenHarmony project that will bring more options in APIs for apps enabling maximum native app compatibility. All of this has no mention of any code from Android.

04:15 pm (IST): Huawei is ready to let third-party OEMs to use HarmonyOS 2.0. The mass scale release of this operating system to Huawei devices is set to begin in June.

Huawei says HarmonyOS 2.0 is only 1% and there’s a lot that can be done by other players in the industry. In short, this seems like a base for something big to come in the future.

The company has also merged Huawei HiLink and Power by HarmonyOS to call them HarmonyOS Connect from now. Huawei will be launching HarmonyOS Connect Zone for all malls soon.
