Not long ago, it appeared that everyone was slowly forgetting about the existence of the coronavirus or COVID-19 disease that has been wreaking havoc in nations across the world.

Lockdowns and restrictions were lifted, masks were slowly coming off, and everyone was beginning to resume their regular business, at least in India.

Unfortunately, this negligence has only led to a massive surge in the number of coronavirus-infected individuals, breaking records nearly every day, as highlighted by the New York Times.

To combat COVID, the Government of India, recently announced that everyone between the age of 18 and 44 will be eligible for vaccination starting May 1 through private facilities.

Moreover, eligible individuals in India would have to register themselves on the Co-WIN portal to get the jab. But it seems many users are having trouble doing so.

Many Android users who’ve downloaded the Co-WIN app are reporting that the app is not working or not generating an OTP for registration or verification. It has led to the app getting 1-star ratings on the Play Store.

That’s not all, reports of the problem have been flooding Twitter as well. We’ve added some of them below:

@mygovindia @PMOIndia Cowin app doesn’t work. I’m not receing any OTP. Without registration there is no vaccination. Who do we register if ap doesn’t work? (Source)

Cowin app is not working ,not getting OTP so how to register (Source)

#CoWin one of the worst app. For last one hour trying for OTP and it is not generating..this is clear example of how our government is serious about fighting with #CovidIndia (Source)

At the time of writing, there’s no official word as to what might be the reason for the Co-WIN app not working or generating OTPs for registration or verification.

However, while checking the description for the Co-WIN app listed on the Play Store, we came across the following information.

This Mobile Application is currently meant for CoWIN Facility level users to perform following tasks as Vaccinator , Supervisors and Surveyors. (Source)

Moreover, it has also been confirmed that individuals between 18 and 44 years of age will only be able to register on the Co-WIN portal from April 28.

This could be the reason why Android users who’ve installed the Co-WIN app aren’t receiving the OTP for registration or verification purposes on the app. But there’s no official source that can verify this.

As usual, we will update the story if and when there are any further developments regarding the issue. Meanwhile, you can try your luck on the official Co-WIN portal.
